Background and Origin
Origin
Wendy Peterson was visting relatives outside of Millennium City when the invasion occurred. As a woman with medical experience as an EMT back in Baltimore, Maryland, Wendy rushed to the city to see if she could provide some help and assistance.
Shortly after entering the city limits, she witnessed a winged figure crash to the ground nearby. She scrambled over to see a tall armored woman, her face and body coated in blood and debris, moaning softly in the crater she left in the sidewalk where she landed. What appeared to be shrapnel stuck out of her back, and more stuck through her torso. She caught Wendy's eyes, and raised her mangled hand to her, motioning weakly to her to come closer.
"Let me try to stop the bleeding, ma'am", Wendy stammered, pulling off the T-shirt she was wearing, thankful she was wearing a sports bra underneath it, as she ran to the woman. "I am going to help you. I'm an EMT." She looked more closely at the broken figure in front of her. "You, you are one of the Champions!", she exclaimed, leaning back slightly.
The woman wildly grabbed at Wendy's hands, pulling her towards her, and with her fading breath, exhaled "You will now become one too." Suddenly, a pink blinding light shot out of her entire body, engulfing Wendy in a searing force of light. Wendy struggled to release herself from the Champion's grasp, but it became stronger as the light intensifed. The light poured into Wendy, as powerful as it was painful.
Just as suddenly as the light appeared, it went away in a brilliant flash, leaving Wendy alone on the ground, writhing in pain. She could feel things changing inside of her. She heard her bones popping over her screams of pain and agony, muscles and tendons stretching and growing, her back arching and flaring in violent motions. Then, it all stopped, and a soothing voice washed over her.
"The time has come for a new heroine to be born," it whispered, "and for the good of all mankind". Wendy felt all the pain wash out of her, filling her with feelings of peace, relaxation, and something that she had never felt before - an overwhelming power that seemed to be magical, or ... heavenly?
A cloud of dust kicked up beside her as the Champion known as Sapphire landed softly next to her. "Angelmist, poor woman," she said softly, "may the gods treat you justly". She looked down at Wendy, rolling on to her side. "Miss," she stated, resting a hand on Wendy's shoulder, "I saw what happened, and this isn't the first time I have. You have been chosen to help take care of our fair city, and knowing Angelmist, she knew you have the fight and determination to make it happen. But," as she started to help Wendy to her feet, "your life has just changed completely".
Discovery Of Powers
As Sapphire helped Wendy to her feet, Wendy caught a glimpse of her reflection in the window next to the sidewalk she had been on. "What the ..." she gasped, as she noticed that her appearance had changed dramatically in the past moments. Gone was the blonde-haired acne-scarred face and somewhat athletic body she had previously. In its place, her reflection was showing a taller, red-haired creature, with two antennae raising from her forehead, and were those wings behind her? She reached up in disbelief, feeling the solid antenne with her hands, causing her body to tremble with its first experience of its new sensation. She turned around quickly, stumbling against the building, as she tried to look at the wings behind her. "They, they look like ..."
"The wings of a dragonfly," Sapphire smiled, finishing Wendy's statement. "Angelmist is, well was, a woman with dragonfly abilities, uh, what's your name?"
"Wendy, Wendy Peterson", she stated, still looking at herself in the window. "Dragonfly abilities, what do you mean by that?"
"You have seen a dragonfly before, haven't you, Wendy?"
"Yes, but how did she have them, and do I have them now?"
"We will find out soon dear," she stated, smiling at Wendy. "To find out, we have to go to Champions headquarters. So, if you are ready," she smiled, taking Wendy's hands gently, "I will take us there."
Sapphire and Wendy rose from the ground, and through Sapphire's powers, teleported to Champions headquarters in Millennium City. Upon arrival, she was examined by the medical staff at the headquarters, and was determined that she was in excellent health. They compiled a report of what they have discovered of the newest hero in the city, Mendy!
Powers, Skills, and Attributes
Subject Wendy Peterson, hereafter known by the name of Mendy (chosen by subject), has obtained powers of the late Champion Angelmist. She has antennae on head that pick up wind direction, and are sensitive to noise levels in immediate area. She can hear an ant walking on a blade of grass at her feet, or hear a dog bark 500 yards away at the same level of hearing.
Subject has wings similar to that of a dragonfly, granting her the ability to fly and move at any angle. In testing, Mendy was able to reach speeds of up to 80 MPH in full-on flight speed, and was able to dodge objects as small as a bearing launched at her. This is faster than what Angelmist could do. Her wings emulate from her back and shoulders.
Subject is able to pick up weights up to 4000 pounds with ease. Lifted supervisor's car over her head after he made crude remark about subject. Maxed out at 6500 pounds at one foot off of surface.
Subject has ability to heal just about all lifeforms. Mendy can heal lifeform through unknown light that passes through her hands. Can heal by touching person or from distance of no more than 50 yards. Mendy is happy with this power because she is an EMT, and she likes to heal people. **Note to superiors: With proper training, this subject could be interesting choice for top-flight projects/missions.**
Subject also has ability to turn unknown light into a power source that can damage opponent it is directed towards. Damage is not severe, but Mendy has good stamina, and can weaken enemy or structure with multiple hits in same location.
Subject has shown ability to transform items on person instanteniously. Mendy can transform clothing on body by thinking of what she wants to wear, she admitted to specialists. This person has personally witnessed clothing on subject change from cloth garments to unknown metal "armor", if you would, without a blink of Mendy's eye. Subject tends to perfer this armor-like metal material, stating that it can "protect her while she is protecting others". At last count, Mendy has shown over 20 different styles of armor to specialists. Guess that makes her a "fashion bug", but I digress.
**Conclusion to superiors: This woman is someone that we need in our ranks - a healer that can take damage, give damage, and take care of herself and others at same time. Mendy prefers to be a healer, but has volunteered to fight as support staff when necessary. Height of subject (six foot six inches) and proper armor could serve as deterent to enemy or whomever she encounters. Recommend that Mendy learn to hone her powers with Red Academy.**
Red Academy
Mendy was accepted into the elite superhero school, Red Academy, run by the superheroine SuperSara. A fellow healer herself, SuperSara helped Mendy learn how to use her healing powers, both for healing and for offense as well. As the months progressed, Mendy grew more familiar with her powers, progressing to a point where SuperSara took her out on missions with other members of the school. Her dedication to her school, and her abilities on missions became well-known, and she became a favorite amongst the healing community.
After a year of training, Mendy was "promoted" to an instructor at the school, where she currently teaches what she learned to new pupils at the academy.
General Perception
Mendy is considered as a powerful, but approachable, heroine to the general public. She is one of a group of healers who go to the local hospitals whenever possible to help heal the sick and injured. She appears at charity events, and is adored by young girls everywhere. Her campaign to end bullying in Millennium City made international news, causing her to appear on talk shows around the world.
