Bio
Naya Sakhalov officially doesn't exist. Her Egyptian mother, Rana, is a VIPER Serpent Mage, and her Russian father, Yuri, is a colonel in the Russian Army. Both have been with VIPER since before she was born; in fact, that's how they met, and both are fanatically loyal to VIPER. Rana gave birth to Naya in a VIPER facility in Kazakhstan, where doctors (who were also on VIPER's payroll) officially listed the child as stillborn. Naya was then raised completely off the books, and trained from birth to be a VIPER agent. Her mother wanted her to be a Serpent Mage, like herself, but Naya had zero magical aptitude, so she was trained to be an assassin instead.
The heavily indoctrinated young woman probably would have remained a loyal VIPER assassin forever, had it not been for her mother. Rana was working with a South American Nest in Peru; Naya was assigned to work with her. When the Nest was assaulted by superheroes, Rana callously ordered Naya to sacrifice herself to buy time so that she could escape. Naya might have even done so, had her mother shown any appreciation whatsoever for her, but the utter disregard for her own daughter as she commanded, not asked, irrevocably shattered the young woman's loyalty to her mother and to VIPER. Naya took her position as expected, but when the heroes approached, she threw down her weapons and surrendered.
After some heated debate, Naya was allowed to join the heroes who rescued her, becoming the non-founder to join Black Sun as Naga.
Powers & Abilities
Weaknesses
Personality & Interests
- Myers-Briggs Type: ISTJ "The Logistician"
- Interests: Computers, horseback riding, playing the piano
- Three-word description: Three-word description: Skillful, overachiever, stubborn
- Goals and Motivations. Wants to travel the world as a tourist, rather than an assassin, and do touristy things.
Though she tries to mask it, Naga is still more than a little conflicted about leaving VIPER. She's struggling to overcome (literally) a life-time of conditioning, and she's afraid her new friends don't/won't trust her if she admits it.
Allies & Contacts
- Currently limited to her teammates in Black Sun. She had no other life outside VIPER, and she has no desire to associate with anyone from that life any more.
- Of her teammates, she gets along best with Cerulean (who's shown her the most understanding), Cobalt (who is more than a little cynical), and Shockwave (surprisingly, as she's a former police officer). She frequently bickers with Aegis; their ideas of morality are worlds apart.
Enemies
- VIPER. They believe she perished in the attack. She is now determined to do everything in her power to destroy them, a sentiment that are sure to return in kind.
- Her mother, Rana Sakhalov. Naga hates her mother with a fury akin to that of a religious fanatic for a heretic.
