Fires can warm, or burn everything to ashes. Deals are made, deals can be broken. But whether paid in cash or blood, only time will tell. 

Passion, fury, hatred, vengeance; slow burn or out of control inferno. 

Fire can be dangerous and wild. Unpredictable. Hungry. Consuming. Fires can start slow or they can start in a flash. Anything can be sparks to kindling, if it’s the right sort.

But the most important thing to remember is that even while chaos burns around you, never forget yourself and never forget your honor.

For one particular superheroine, that rings true more than anyone would know.

Born in Vibora Bay on the day of the Summer Solstice (June 21st) to Richter and Bella Altomare, Arielle grew up surrounded by the oceans and beaches of Vibora Bay, living on the Easton side of the bayside metropolis. Her father Richter owned a chain of seafood restaurants called Palazzo Delle Sirene (Mermaid’s Palace) across Vibora Bay, so he was quite wealthy, and her mother Bella was little more than a trophy wife. Because of her father’s prosperity and social status, Arielle lived a life of affluence and privilege, unaware of the harsh realities of the world outside of her gilded bubble. Her father Richter was German-American and her mother was pure Italian--Arielle inherited her father's sea green eyes while she got her mother's brilliant flame red hair. With her milky, pale skin, she had a very striking combination and promised to be a showstopping beauty when she grew up. 

'However this led to the young girl being very sheltered and practically next to no interaction with her parents, who were very self-absorbed, and all but forgot that they had a daughter unless it was convenient for them. From birth, she had a nanny, and when she got a bit older, then a caretaker, given her mother did not want to be seen with her daughter unless it suited her, and Richter didn’t bother with her at all. 
Arielle tried to make friends with the children of the house’s servants, but was punished harshly by her father if he caught her ‘fraternizing with the help’, and her mother only looked down her nose at her daughter when she tried to go to her for comfort. 
Heartbroken, lonely and thinking no one loved her, Arielle tried to run away from home; only to run smack into the legs of her grandfather, who had come to pay his granddaughter a visit, and was horrified and furious to learn how she was being treated, never mind how her father was treating the ‘help’.

Richter’s father, Juste (pronounced yoo-ste) was extremely disappointed in his son for how he was raising his daughter. Juste contacted the VBPD and CPS, and cited negligence, emotional and sometimes physical abuse and asking one of his old contacts, Judge Burt Burke, for a permanent custody order. With the signed order in hand, the 70-year-old snow haired man delivered an ultimatum to his son—either he let him take his daughter so he could raise her himself, or he would disinherit him from his will and leave him with nothing when he died, plus having him arrested for child abuse and neglect. Not wanting to lose his wealth or his position in society, Richter immediately capitulated, signing the custody order, and Juste had taken Arielle to live with him in Millennium City. 

Juste lived in City Center, not the lavish Millennium City Downtown, but the old man wasted no time in teaching his granddaughter the merits of hard work, of integrity, honesty, humility, dedication and that despite her wealthy background, she was no better than the common man who worked an everyday nine to five job. The old man made it a solid point to show his fiery haired granddaughter how everyday people lived and worked and sent her to a public school instead of a private one, to show her that money wasn’t everything in life and it wouldn’t get you everything you wanted, regardless of what people would tell you.  

The New Purple Gang and the presence of PSI didn’t help either—City Center proved to be just as dangerous as the slums of Westside. The constant fighting between the New Purple Gang and PSI was made plain one day when a fight between the two gang factions broke out in a local mall Arielle and her grandfather had gone to for lunch. Psychic bolts, bullets and blood soared in all directions, Arielle barely making her escape along with her grandfather. 
Juste warned her this sort of thing had become rather commonplace, and when asked why the police weren’t dealing with it, he looked her in the eye and told her:
“Some things must be dealt with by forces stronger than the police, der Schatz. Leave it to UNTIL and PRIMUS.”

Arielle was curious about the two international organizations, and Juste showed her the PRIMUS headquarters website so she could learn their history and their primary aims.  

But all was not well back in Vibora Bay.

Because of her father’s wealth, this attracted unwanted attention from the Blackfathom Sharks, a gang that had been growing in prominence in recent years in the area, third ranked beneath the Sovereign Sons. Seeing an opportunity to make more money, Richter decided to cut a deal with their leader, Abyssal Maw, using some of his restaurants as a front for the criminal organization’s activities in return for a substantial cut of their profits.
But the Blackfathom Sharks weren’t content with the deal, and started leeching more and more from Richter as time went by. Eventually Richter went to ‘deal’ with Abyssal Maw, who didn’t take kindly to the threats from the wealthy businessman, and had him and her mother kidnapped for ransom to pay his ‘debts’. The Blackfathom leader used Richter’s cell phone to find the contact information for Juste, and contacted him with a ransom threat—either he brought ten million dollars in cash to the flagship restaurant, “Perla Di Sirena” (Mermaid’s Pearl) or his son and wife would die.

Having picked up the kitchen phone at the same time her grandfather had answered the phone in his study, Arielle had overheard everything. Horrified, she followed him back to Vibora Bay, purchasing a ticket of her own on a different flight about an hour behind him so he wouldn’t know he followed her. Unfortunately for her, Abyssal Maw had learned from Richter that he had a daughter, and intended to use Arielle in his own nefarious schemes, and he had her captured when she arrived at the restaurant herself, armed with a gun she had gotten from her parents’ house. She’d managed to shoot two of the gangsters before they had tied her up and placed her off to the side in a huge clamshell pedestal that had once held an alabaster and pearl statue of a mermaid.
Juste did show up with a briefcase and was horrified to see his granddaughter had been captured as well. Abyssal Maw increased the ransom demand, telling him he’d need about five million more for his ‘pretty little mermaid’.  

Chaos erupted. The old man suddenly was a fiery blur of movement, taking all but three of the gang out, leaving blazing golden flames in his wake as he busted through the enemy lines. Despite his age, Juste still worked out and even though he was 70 years old he still had quite a fit body and a strong constitution. Unfortunately due to old battle injuries he’d sustained during the Battle of Detroit, he was forced to stop near his open mouthed son and daughter in law, gasping for breath as his heart threatened to give out.

Arielle could do nothing but watch as a hail of razor-sharp ice shards ripped through her parents and her grandfather, killing them instantly. Grieving and enraged, anger burned brilliantly in Arielle’s heart as she looked right at a grinning Abyssal Maw, tears of fury and hatred burning in her sea green eyes. The smile on the supervillain’s face quickly faded, however, when he realized he’d made an excessively big mistake.

The explosion was not only heard for miles around but was also seen very clearly, considering the blast radius had engulfed not only the entire establishment but the grounds as well. Flames roared high into the air, going from orange-red to blue-white in seconds, fueled by Arielle’s rage and grief and consuming the gang members who were unlucky enough to be caught in the eruption of heat and light. The surge of energy was powerful enough to attract attention—specific attention close by. 

Arielle had come to in very unfamiliar surroundings—she was in a house. It was a genuinely nice brownstone, with rich red carpeting and what looked like Egyptian statues, symbols, and plants native to Egypt surrounding her. Warm, inviting looking couches and chairs were near an open fireplace, which crackled with light and heat. Movement out of the corner of her eye made the fiery haired young woman glance over, considerably frightened considering she didn’t know what was going on or what had happened. A man had entered the room, approaching her with a tray that held cups of a strange white drink that smelled of coconut. 
The man was clad in ancient Egyptian garb, sandals and helm akin to those of an Egyptian warrior of old—Arielle knew him from seeing news articles in her grandfather’s study. Dr. Ka—a mysterious Egyptian mage who resided in Vibora Bay, and helped protect it from the surrounding gangs. 

And he wasn’t alone. With him was another superhero, who introduced himself as Firebrand, and that he had worked with her grandfather once upon a time.

Arielle was stunned to learn from the FBI agent/superhero that her grandfather had actually been a superhero himself—the legendary Überflieger, or ‘Hotshot’. Known for his pyrokinesis and his super speed, her grandfather had been a real powerhouse back in his day. He had fought in the Battle of Detroit, and had survived the onslaught that Dr. Destroyer had wrought on the entire city. 
He had retired when he had settled down and married a civilian woman he dearly loved, but when Richter had been born, her grandmother had weakened and died soon after, and in his consuming grief Juste had unwisely left Richter in the care of his younger brother Dolph, which was why he had turned out the way he had. Richter didn’t have the power his father did—it had skipped a generation, and had lain dormant in her before now.
Dr. Ka revealed to her that Juste had reached out to him before he went to hunt down Abyssal Maw and his gang, and had begged him to train his granddaughter, or if not, find someone who could train her properly, given he was too old to do so and he would likely die in this last battle to save his granddaughter, if not his son and daughter-in-law. 

“Your powers are not magical, my child, but Firebrand will train you. Your grandfather made it his final request if something happened to him.” 

Arielle really saw no other choice; and she agreed to allow the FBI agent to train her. Over the next six months, under Firebrand’s sharp eye and strict training, they discovered she was not just able to manipulate fire, but also the kind that burned the hottest—blue fire, around 9,000 to 10,000 Kelvin and was able to turn most things to ash in seconds. Firebrand taught her strict temperature control as well as sending her to anger management therapy and dealing with her grief over losing her grandfather if not her parents. Unlike her parents, her grandfather had been both father and mother to her, and she missed him sorely. 

Firebrand also told her that Abyssal Maw and two of his lieutenants had survived the blast, having been thrown clear and severely burned because of her explosive awakening. UNTIL had them in custody, but the three of them had escaped, utterly destroying the facility they had been held in, and it left nothing more than a bloody warzone in their wake. And now both organizations were hunting them down, but so far had been unsuccessful They now went by the names of Freezer Burn, Black Ice, and Frostbite, and UNTIL wanted her help in finding and capturing them in return for him training her, despite her grandfather’s request.

Despite having inherited her grandfather’s wealth, since her father’s assets had been all seized since the VBPD and PRIMUS had uncovered evidence of his criminal dealings, Arielle chose to live a simple life in Millennium City Center, working during the day as a cook at Firebirds Wood-Fired Grill, specializing in flame seared steak and seafood. 

She looked over her grandfather’s old photos in his superhero costume, and inspiration struck her from the hotrod racer outfit her grandfather had worn in his day. She tossed together a costume, and contacted Dr. Ka for help making a suitable mask, offering him an ancient Egyptian statue of the Bennu in return for his help. The Egyptian mage took the mask that her grandfather had once worn, and used his magic to enchant it. When she wore it, it would change her voice and conceal her face—the magic also transforming the mask’s appearance to a birdlike helm instead of a race car driver’s helmet. 

Arielle gazed at the mask for a long moment. She had her fire abilities, a costume, a mask, and a reason to use them. She was just missing a name. But the name in question seemed obvious, considering the way her powers had awakened. Not just a name but a reminder—a reminder that her powers could be deadly to the innocent as well as the guilty, that in a split second, fires could start.

And the world would now forever know her as…

Arielle Altomare is nineteen years old, and quite the stunning young lady for her age. At 5’6 and weighing in at about 130 lbs, she tries to be as healthy as possible, but is known to munch on junk food at times, her pyrokinesis talents consuming a lot of ‘fuel’ overtime. She is quiet and keeps to herself, but once she gets to know someone, she will open up over time. She can be quite sassy at times, especially when she’s in combat and tends to insult her opponents to anger them. 
She wears her fiery red hair long, and generally has it in a tail or pinned at the sides, sometimes with a flower in her hair. She tends to dress quite casual most of the time—T-shirt, vest and shorts with strapped sandals or sneakers, or black or blue jeans with a tank top. She prefers being comfortable at all times, and cares truly little about the ‘latest’ in fashion trends.

As Flashpoint, her costume is somewhat styled after her grandfather’s outfit, but with quite a few modifications and changes. Most fabrics would go up in flames immediately due to her pyrokinesis, so reinforced heat-resistant fabric was produced in a teal shade with gold trim. The reinforced boots resemble bird talons to a degree—but the ‘talons’ aren’t just for show…they are actually very sharp and could be used to ‘clutch’ or ‘strike’ an enemy if she decides to divebomb someone. 
The gauntlets also have curved blades over the fists jutting from the wristguards, protecting her hands and providing her with protection from blades if she lifts them to block a strike. Her mask is akin to an avian’s head to some degree, enchanted by Dr. Ka, also colored in the teal and gold scheme. 
This is her current costume, as a nod to her grandfather’s legacy as well as a ‘starter’ costume for the time being.
